Job Requirements

JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of specialized invasive cardiovascular diagnostic and therapeutic procedures that assist in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of cardiovascular disease. Functions as an administrative and clinical resource and participates in committees to make significant contributions to the units performance improvement and patient safety initiatives.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Education & Training:Completion of an accredited program and current Maryland RT license or RCIS is required.Current BLS and ACLS required.


Work Orientation & Experience: Minimum three (3) years previous experience in Cardiovascular Imaging required.

Skills & Abilities:Visual and hearing abilities sufficient for observing and interpreting technical information provided by a variety of equipment displays, graphic and written sources; sufficient for receiving and understanding job related verbal technical and medical instructions in a busy radiology environment.Ability to steadily perform radiologic procedures.The Lead Cardiovascular Specialist must possess critical thinking skills, be able to prioritize and have the ability to follow through on tasks and assignments.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Supervised by: Clinical Manager, Cath/Angio Labs


Supervision provided to:Radiologic Technologists and Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialists in the Cardiac Catheterization and Angiography laboratories.

Work Experience

1.Performs cardiovascular procedures according to written protocols to provide sufficientviews necessary for physician interpretation.Establishes and maintains a sterile field to protect the patient from nosocomial infection, practices universal precautions.

2.Transports patients to and from the procedure room and the prep/recovery area, maintaining patient privacy and following HIPAA guidelines. Verifies patient identification utilizing 2 identifiers prior to procedure to ensure accurate patient service.

3.Participates on the units schedule committee.

4.Participates in assuring quality patient care through the monitoring of team member/department performance on an ongoing basis.Ensures that the Interventional Angiography/Cardiovascular Laboratories comply with applicable laws, regulations and standard of federal, state and local laws as well as The Joint Commission (TJC).

5.Communicates to the healthcare team the plan of care, changes in patient condition, patient progress, and other relevant information.

6.Demonstrates competencies in performing designated skills within the Interventional Angiography/Cardiac Cath Labs. Assists interviewing, training and precepting new departmental team members.

7.Assists purchasing liaison in managing par levels and semi-annual inventory counts.

8.Participates in intra-departmental task groups, supports the UM UCH mission and vision, and functions as a lead resource to the team.

9.Assists physicians in procedures and treatments requiring professional Interventional Angiography CVS skills, and demonstrates the ability and competency to respond quickly and efficiently in emergent situations.

10. Recognizes, communicates, and documents hemodynamic changes sufficient to initiate adequate patient care response.

11.Monitors and documents the condition and availability of emergency equipment to ensure proper functioning and presence when needed.Notifies team/manager/charge RN of issues with equipment.

12.Provides for actual and anticipated educational needs of Interventional Angiography/ Cardiovascular patient.

13.Reviews next day schedule to ensure that all information/supplies/resources are present to guarantee smooth/efficient workflow.Reviews supply charges for cath/angio labs on a daily basis to ensure accurate charges and budget compliance.Verifies accurate documentation in cases is complete in EPIC.

14.Conducts and keeps record of monthly case review with team and interventional cardiologist.

15.Functions as a liaison working with vendors and in collaboration with purchasing liaison, and in cost reduction of supplies/finding substitutes, that meet the needs of the team.

16.Supports/mentors fellow team members.

17. Facilitates monthly-quarterly tech meetings.

18. Performs other duties as assigned.
