Upward Bound Spanish Instructor
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Upward Bound Program is a pre-collegiate program based at Rollins College that provides college-preparatory programs and assisting resources to 72 college-bound high school students from Orange County Public Schools District (Jones, Evans, Wekiva, and OakRidge. Our students are motivated learners from socioeconomic backgrounds considered statistically less likely to complete a four-year degree. They range from general level to honors to Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate.
The Rollins College Upward Bound Program is seeking a Spanish Instructor for the Academic Year of 2026-2027. The Instructor (Standard District level Science Curriculum Instruction for grades 9-12 (incorporating vocabulary, comprehension, and Subject retention strategies) is a part-time position that includes classroom instruction and tutoring responsibilities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Attend a one-day of staff training, preparation, and planning.
- Instruct approximately 18 sessions in designated subject area for 9th-12th grade High School students (academic year)
- Conduct classroom instruction.
- Create content and online video lessons for virtual week instruction.
- Assist students via in-person, email, videoconferencing or phone.
- Communicate with the Program staff at time of instruction regarding student attendance and progress.
- Keep a detailed and accurate account of time and effort.
- Finalize Student Records
- Review all student schedules to ensure accuracy.
- Verify that all grades are entered and submitted by the deadline.
- Program Documentation
- Complete and organize Summer Academy files and paperwork.
- Confirm that all documentation required for student stipend eligibility is accurate and up to date.
- Instructional & Program Support
- Reflect on student progress and provide feedback to support future instruction.
- Assist with preparation of student records for transition into the academic year.
- Resource & Supply Review
- Take inventory of current office and classroom supplies.
- Prepare a list of back-to-school supply needs to ensure readiness for the upcoming term.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.A. or B.S. in a related field.
- FLDOE Teaching Certification.
- 1-3 years Secondary school teaching or related experience required, preferably working with low income or minority youth.
- Familiarity with assessment tools in the subject area.
- Knowledge of OCPS High School English curriculum preferred.
- Knowledge of remote learning platforms, such as Zoom or Google Classroom.
- Successful experience interacting with culturally diverse populations.
Level 2 Background Screening Requirement
As a condition of employment, the candidate must pass a Florida Level 2 Background Screening prior to their start date. The cost of the fingerprinting is the responsibility of the candidate. The cost is approximately $70.00+ and payment is collected when the appointment is scheduled.
The candidate cannot start working until all background screening results are returned and cleared or until they have received an approved exemption.

- September-May, June & July
- Candidates selected are expected to participate in a summer training on June 5th, 2026
- Work Schedule: Academic year hours available 10-12 per month. Summer Teachers will work Monday through Thursday 8:00am to 1:00pm.
- Compensation: Approximately $30.00 per hour. This is an Upward Bound grant funded position through the U.S. Department of Education and is contingent upon grant funding. There are no benefits associated with this position.

Upward Bound is a campus-based college-preparatory program assisting 72 college-bound high school students from Orange County. During the school year the program provides college-prep advancement instruction, guidance in preparing for college admission, tutorial services and academic advisement to further enhance the participants' academic development and preparation for post-secondary educational opportunities and curriculum advancement for the school year. Our students are motivated learners from socioeconomic backgrounds considered statistically less likely to complete a four-year degree.
